AI Slop

What vendors mean: nothing — they avoid the word. What it actually means: the low-effort, mass-produced AI content flooding the internet, and the reputational risk of your brand adding to it.

Governance & Risk

The term

AI slop is the derisive name for cheap, high-volume, low-quality content generated by AI with little human judgment — the filler articles, fake reviews, uncanny stock images, and generic social posts that are technically coherent and completely hollow.

Why it matters to you

Two risks. First, your own brand. If your marketing, support, or thought-leadership content reads like slop, customers notice, and the association is hard to shake. “We used AI” is not a defense when the output is forgettable. Second, your inputs. Slop is polluting the sources your teams and your AI systems rely on, so the open web is a less trustworthy place to research than it was two years ago.

What that means in practice: AI is a fine drafting tool and a terrible publishing decision. Put a human with taste and accountability between every AI draft and your audience. The goal was never more content — it was content worth someone’s attention. Measure by whether a real person would be glad they read it.
